Tea dance

A TEA dance held at Capel y Drindod Vestry on Monday, 12 March, was organised by Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board Dwyfor Sementia Services and sponsored by O Ddrws i Ddrws.

Live music was provided by Edwin and Mandy through the charity Music in Hospitals & Care.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness of dementia in the community and promote dementia supportive communities.

The event provided an opportunity for people to reminisce and have a purposeful activity.

Service users in day services were involved with making decorations.

Many of the service users from the community volunteered to set up the venue and help with making tea and coffee as well as washing up at the end.

Entry was free, tea and cake was £1 and there was a raffle, for which all prizes were kindly donated.

Approximately 50 individuals attended the event, including service users from both Hafan and Ala Road day services, service users in the community, members of DementiaGo, a group from Canolfan y Gwystl, as well as the general public.

The dance raised £179 for the Hafan, Bryn Beryl League of Friends and the money raised will be used to hire a minibus so that services can organise day trips.

Evening WI

THE March meeting on 6 March was chaired by the president, Daphne Jones.

Daphne introduced and welcomed the guest speaker Naomi Jones, head of education and communications of the Snowdonia National Park Authority.

Naomi gave a very interesting and informative talk about the new museum at Yr Ysgwrn, Trawsfynydd, the family home of the poet Hedd Wyn.

She also showed slides, photographs and letters which gave an insight into his family life.

It made everyone aware of the great loss to all when this talented young man died on the battlefield.

His death has become the symbolic representation of all the young men of Wales who died in the First World War.

The vote of thanks was given by Dilys Williams. The tea hostesses were Ann and Helen Owen.

The raffle prize, given by Sandra Jones, was won by Helen Owen.

The business part of the meeting then followed with matters arising discussed and dealt with. Arrangements for the book club and pilates instruction were finalised.

The members then enjoyed cheese and wine refreshments as well as the usual tea or coffee.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, 10 April, at 7pm at the Ala Road vestry and will be a talk and demonstration entitled Apples, Alpacas, Jams etc by Wendy Blackwell and Sharon Mears.
