THE June meeting of the WI took place on Monday, 3 June, and saw Caroline Hotchkiss, the president, welcoming a good turnout of members to the meeting.

She began by outlining various county events taking place over the summer, the general knowledge quiz later this month and the Archive Aberystwyth evening in July. She then pointed out that the walking group has had the first walk, walking the local Tree Trail and plans are in hand for further walks.

The book club, also a new venture, held its second meeting and garnered views on To Kill a Mocking Bird. The new book being read is The Salt Path by Raynor Wynn.

Plans are being made for a WI stall at the Waunfawr Summer Fair on 6 July.

Caroline then went on to welcome the evening’s speaker, Mair Jones, who came to give an insight into Hatha Yoga.

Mair is one of a group of qualified yoga teachers who give a wide variety of classes at different venues in the area.

She gave an introduction to Hatha Yoga explaining how she had been drawn to its value when combating depilating illness; she found that Hatha Yoga increased both her strength and suppleness while helping her to become calm and focussed on her recovery.

She then led a session of Armchair Yoga; working on breath and movement of both upper body and lower limbs with members sitting in a circle around her. All members benefitted from her insight and clear explanations; and as Yoga y Pawb lists all its classes on the web site, a number of members may join those already taking part in Yoga classes.

The next meeting will be on Monday, 1 July, when they will welcome speaker Helen Palmer from the Ceredigion Archive Department in Aberystwyth will be talking about The Queens Hotel, which once occupied a prominent place on the Aberystwyth Promenade.
