Machynlleth councillors are pushing for the “urgent” reintroduction of the free TrawsCymru bus service on weekends.

In July 2017, a Welsh Government initiative was introduced making all buses on the TrawsCymru network free for all passengers on weekends. This was halted at the start of the pandemic.

Cllr Gareth Jones presented a proposal to Machynlleth Town Council during a meeting on 26 April, urging the council to write to TrawsCymru and the Welsh Government in support of the “urgent” reintroduction of the initiative, which “meant an awful lot to Machynlleth people”.

Mayor Cllr Richie Gaskell said he “100 per cent” agreed.

Cllr Michael Williams added he was “absolutely delighted” with the proposal and the scheme should be “reinstated as soon as possible”.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the proposal.
