GWYNEDD Council celebrated its female members on International Women’s Day.

Gwynedd councillors marked International Women’s Day on Thursday to celebrate and highlight the contribution of Gwynedd women to the county, to Wales and beyond.

During the day, the council published a video on its social media accounts to note the contribution of Gwynedd women to our society over the years and encouraged residents to share details about those women who have inspired them.

Cllr Mair Rowlands, Gwynedd Council deputy leader, said: “Over the centuries, women have made a significant contribution to our society, but very often their stories have not had their rightful place in our history.

“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political contribution of women, and to inspire the next generation to continue to fight for true equality.”

In the 2017 elections, 10 per cent of Gwynedd councillors were female.
