A CARDIGAN man who admitted assaulting two police officers in the town and damaging a police van has been handed a community order.
Gerwyn Richards, of Gwel Gerwyn, Heol Abergwaun, pleaded guilty to assaulting two police officers - Pc Donoghue and Pc Edwards - during an incident in Cardigan on Saturday, 23 October when he appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 2 December.
The 64-year-old also admitted damaging the cell door of a custody van following his arrest.
Magistrates made Richards the subject of a 12-month community order to include 60 hours of unpaid work.
The court heard the penalty for the offence would normally have been a fine, but the sentence was uplifted due to the attacks being on emergency workers.
Richards was also ordered to pay a total of £190 in compensation to the two officers and to Dyfed-Powys Police to repair the cell door of the van.
Richards must also pay prosecution costs of £85 as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £95.
