A MOTORIST from Devil's Bridge has been cleared this afternoon of causing the death of local councillor Paul James by careless driving.

Christopher Allan Jones, 40, of Tynycae, had been accused of driving carelessly when he ran over Cllr James, after he had been knocked off his bicycle.

But a jury at Swansea Crown Court has this afternoon (Monday) returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty.

The jury has yet to decide a verdict in relation to Lowri Ruth Powell, 44, of Maes yr Efail, Penrhyncoch, who denies causing death by careless driving.

She had admitted “clipping” Mr James with the wing mirror of her Ford Galaxy, but told the jury she had been dazzled by sunlight at the time.
