A 26-YEAR-OLD man from Machynlleth has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after fleeing the scene of a crash and leaving a passenger trapped in his car.

The driver was arrested following an early morning crash on Sunday near Glandyfi on the A487 and his passenger had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.

The passenger suffered “serious injuries” and was hospitalised but is now in a stable condition.

A Dyfed-Powys police spokesperson said: “The arrest was made following police, fire and ambulance attendance at a road traffic collision on the A487 near Glandyfi, just after 6am on Sunday, 9 October.

“The driver made off from the scene.

“The passenger was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out by the fire and rescue service.

“The male passenger was conveyed to hospital with serious injuries. He is now in a stable condition.

“The driver was located and the arrest was made.”

The Mid and West Wales Fire service said that crews from Machynlleth and Aberystwyth attended the incident and used hydraulic cutters to free the passenger. Fire crews left the incident at 7.45am.

The driver is currently on police bail pending further police enquiries.
