As a former hospital administrator of nearly 40 years’ experience I was interested to read your article concerning the appointment of a new chief executive for the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board.

I also noted that it’s still under ‘special measures’.

My wife and I have both had surgery and received outpatient treatment many times at both the main Wrexham and Bangor hospitals.

I have always been most impressed and thankful for the treatment we received there, and from our ideal health centre in Barmouth.

I believe that the main reason for criticism of the health board is politics, since it seems to come from the Conservative party and Plaid Cymru.

It is correct that we should have great expectations of our health service, but Andrew R T Davies (no relation) is directing his venom at Vaughan Gething simply because he is part of the Labour administration in Wales. Perhaps he has forgotten that our health professionals are also coping with the pandemic.

Finally, if he is worried about incompetence at the top, perhaps he should direct his attention to Westminster, and the activities of Messrs Johnson, Grayling, Williamson, Shapps, Hancock and Cummings, to name but a few.
