LIBRARIES across mid and south Ceredigion could be closed as council chiefs consider a major shake-up of the county’s library services.
Three options are due to be put before council Cabinet members today, as part of a planned public consultation before a Cabinet decision.
All three proposals include the closure of Llandysul library, but it appears Aberystwyth’s library is safe.
The news is sure to spark fury among residents.
The council came under fire when it closed Tregaron library and a community group in New Quay had to take over the town’s library to keep it open.
Arwyn Morris, the head of ICT and customer services, said as well as closures of at least one library, the library van service would be “redesigned” which would see the number of visits to different areas reduced in an effort to save money.
The three options in the report are: the closure of Llandysul library and reduction of the mobile library fleet by axeing one large and one small vehicle; the closure of Llandysul and one of either Aberaeron, Cardigan or Lampeter libraries; the closure of all libraries other than Aberystwyth.
