A MAJOR EU-backed project has been launched aimed at supporting young people who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) across west Wales.

The Cam Nesa project will work with young people aged between 16 and 24 years old by providing them with options to access a range of tailored personal support and work-related opportunities to meet their needs and aspirations.

Cllr Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet member responsible for learning services, said: “This is a great step towards ensuring that all young people in Ceredigion have the support necessary to flourish and reach their potential. A project such as this will not only benefit young people, but also their communities.”

The £5.7m project is part-funded by the European Social Fund and will run over the next two years. It will work with an estimated 2,000 young people across west Wales.

Elen James, Ceredigion head of youth engagement and continuing education, said: “The economic and social wellbeing of Ceredigion’s unemployed young people will benefit from the additional opportunities provided by the Cam Nesa project, maximising the participation of post 16 young people in employment, education and training which is a priority for Ceredigion County Council”.
