NOSTALGIC pupils and former pupils have been invited to come and take a final trip down memory lane before their school closes for good later this year.

This summer, Ysgol Ganllwyd is one of several schools in the Dolgellau area set to shut its doors for the last time before the new Ysgol Bro Idris super school opens in September.

To mark the historic occasion, those with a connection to the school are being invited to an open day to share their thoughts and memories with their peers on Saturday at 8pm.

There will also be a series of presentations commemorating the school, which visitors are more than welcome to be a part of.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Anyone who wishes to do so is invited to contribute their reminiscences, whether in writing or verbally.

Contributions can be in the form of a story, a poem, a song – whichever medium suits you best. Should you wish to present your reminiscences on the day, we kindly ask you to notify the school’s headteacher so that we can include you on the programme.”

There will be a collection of other activities on the day as well.

“It is our intention to stage an exhibition of old photographs over the years,” added the spokesperson.

“We would appreciate hearing from you if you have any photos that you would be willing to let us borrow for the occasion. There will be a sale of a collection of commemorative goods. Come to meet old friends and take a walk down memory lane.”

For more information contact the school on 01341 440219 or by e-mailing [email protected]

The gates will open at 12.30pm with items from pupils/former pupils and friends between 1.30pm and 3pm.
