S4C has announced that Lliwen Glwys from Machynlleth is the new presenter joining Cyw, the channel’s service for children aged six and under.

Lliwen made her first appearance as part of the Cyw team during a Singing and Dancing session on the main stage at the Garreg Las National Eisteddfod on Thursday, 6 August.

Since graduating from Aberystwyth University, Lliwen has worked as a translator, but performing has always been an important part of her life. She has appeared in productions with Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn and has enjoyed success at numerous Eisteddfodau in singing, dancing and creative writing competitions.

Lliwen said: “I’ve always loved performing and communicating with people and, although I didn’t take the traditional route of studying performance, the passion has always been there. So when I saw the job opportunity, it felt like the perfect chance to go for it.”

Lliwen is also passionate about the Welsh language and is proud to have the opportunity to contribute to the linguistic development of children aged 0–6 through her new role.

“The Cyw service is a vital gateway to the Welsh language. It gives children the opportunity to see, hear and engage with Welsh in a natural and enjoyable way, regardless of their language background. If I can play even a small part in delivering content that inspires and encourages children to use their Welsh, that’s a real privilege.”

Although she is no stranger to performing on stages across Wales, Lliwen admits that making her debut with the Cyw team at the National Eisteddfod is a particularly special occasion.

Speaking ahead of her first appearance, Lliwen said: “I hope I’ll feel right at home joining the team on stage at the Eisteddfod. The nerves may well kick in a few minutes beforehand, but I’m really looking forward to performing.”

“I’m excited to step into a completely different world where the possibilities are endless. I’m counting down the days until I can join the team and welcome the young children of Wales into the World of Cyw.”

Lliwen joins the Cyw presenting team alongside Elin Haf, Griff Daniels and Dafydd Lennon, and will make her first on-screen appearance at 6.00am on Wednesday, 2 September.

Cyw programmes are available every morning from 6.00am, seven days a week, and again at 4.00pm Monday to Friday on S4C, S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer, as well as on demand.

Lliwen will also be taking part in the Cyw Christmas Tour, which runs from 10 November to 19 December at venues across Wales. Details on how to book tickets will be announced in due course.
