A SEMI-RETIRED Llyn farmer is to travel the world as he prepares to represent Wales on an illustrious agricultural committee.

Gareth Wyn Jones, 67, from Pwllheli, who used to farm at Tyn y Coed, Abererch, has been selected to represent Wales on the World Plough committee.

Gareth is only the fourth person to represent Wales since 1990 on the committee as the average time representing your country on the committee is seven years.

Gareth said: “It’s a great honour for me to be selected for this role and at the same time such a big responsibility when the Welsh team travels to the World Championships to Germany later on this year, the end of August the beginning of September.

It will be me in charge of the team from the start to finish.

“Also during our time over in Germany I will get various stewarding jobs and there will be many committees’ to attend whilst in Germany, whilst all the committee members are situated in one country. When we can’t meet up like this a lot of the work will have to be done online by either email or maybe video conferencing.”

There will be a lot of flying around the world for Gareth during the coming years.

After Germany, the World Championships visit America and Russia in 2019 and 2020.

Gareth is used to this as he has supported the event now for many years. Gareth has been a member of the Wales Plough committee since 2000 and has worked very hard on this committee as well he is a member of the Sarn and District Plough committee.

When he gets the opportunity Gareth likes to compete at various ploughing matches which he attends, he competes in the class 2 section and loves nothing better than getting on-board with his tractor and plough.
