PUPILS from a Gwynedd primary school say they’re being put in danger as they walk to school because of irresponsible motorists.

The fed-up children from Ysgol Llanllyfni, are now asking drivers to stop parking on the yellow lines and on the zig-zag lines on the road leading up to the school.

The children have recently designed signs to be put up near the school and delivering letters to neighbouring properties reminding drivers that they are putting pedestrians at risk if they don’t abide by parking rules.

Geraint Jones, Ysgol Llanllyfni headteacher, said: “The children have been learning all about road safety and we are encouraging as many of them as possible to walk to school as it’s better for their health and wellbeing as well as better for the environment.

“However, when they get to the road leading up to the school it can be dangerous for them to cross because there are cars parked where they shouldn’t be. This is especially dangerous for children as they may be too short for motorists to see them if they have to cross from between two parked cars and the children themselves may not be able to see oncoming traffic.”
