THE MET Office has issued an amber weather warning for parts of mid and north Wales tonight - warning that Storm Aileen could bring gusts of 75mph.

The amber warning - meaning be prepared - will come into force from midnight and will run until 6am.

In a statement from the Met Office’s Chief Forecaster, they say: "The strongest winds are expected to arrive in the west around midnight and move quickly eastwards, with the worst of the winds likely to affect any one place for 1-2 hours.

"Gusts of 70-75 mph are most likely over hills and western coasts, but even further east gusts of 60-70 mph are possible.

"Damage to trees and perhaps buildings, as well as power cuts are expected. Flying debris and large coastal waves are possible, and these could lead to injuries."

There is also a yellow warning in place for all of Wales from 8pm tonight for high winds and heavy rain.

The Chief Forecaster added: "Heavy rain will be an additional hazard, especially in the north of the warning area, resulting in especially difficult driving conditions.

"This warning has been expanded further south across Wales and also includes the far southeast of England."
