With her mum currently having chemotherapy, teaching assistant Carys Jones is organising a 40-mile walk with family and friends to raise money for the Bronglais Chemo Appeal.

There will be a team of at least 20, who plan to complete the 40 miles within 24 hours on and April.

They will start at the rugby clubhouse in Tregaron, where Carys’s mum Glenys is landlady, walk to Bronglais Hospital and then make the journey back to the clubhouse.

Ten miles will be completed on the Friday night, 1st April, and then they will start again at 5.30am the following morning, aiming to arrive back in Tregaron by 7pm.

As well as Carys, taking part in the ‘Team Jones Challenge’ will be her 32-year-old twin sister Caryl, older sister Gwenan, 33, and their younger brother Aled, 28, plus Aled’s partner Heulwen and a host of friends.

Carys, who works at Ysgol Carreg Hirfaen in Cwmann and lives in Llwynygroes, said: “We wanted to support Bronglais Chemotherapy Day Unit. Mum is currently having chemotherapy there and she says the staff there are brilliant.

“We are so lucky to have a chemotherapy unit close to us and to have a purpose-built new unit with more privacy will be even better. The Appeal is such a great idea.”

“Mum was so pleased when I told her about the fundraising walk I was organising that she started crying!” added Carys, who is pictured far left, with Heulwen Evans, mum Glenys Jones, brother Aled Jones, sister Gwenan Hodgson and sister Caryl Jones.
