PLANS by health chiefs to move services from a Lampeter surgery defy logic, according to a local councillor.
Hywel Dda University Health Board has advised patients registered with Lampeter and Llanybydder GP surgeries and those seen within the Community Dental Services about “temporary changes” to clinics currently held in Lampeter surgery from this Saturday.
There are moves to relocate some clinics to other sites in the Lampeter area, including speech and language therapy, paediatric clinic, heart failure clinic, community dental clinic and podiatry clinic.
Calling on health chiefs to have a rethink, town mayor Cllr Hag Harris said: “The co-location of a variety of specific health services at one venue creates a health hub at this health centre which is convenient and makes sense for patients and staff alike.
“When I heard that important health services for the Lampeter, area, presently provided at the Bro Pedr Health Centre in Lampeter, could be moving to other locations I was naturally concerned.
“The relocation of services will involve, in some cases, patients travelling to other towns - journeys which will prove very difficult for some patients.
“The change from hosting these services at one centre in Lampeter to a variety of other venues in Lampeter and further afield defies logic.
“I would call on Hywel Dda to reconsider this decision and renew discussions with the Bro Pedr Medical Centre as a matter of urgency."
