“HOOLIGAN” drivers have been warned they are dicing with death after turning an old military camp into an illegal racetrack.

Morfa Camp, off Sandilands Road in Tywyn, is an old RAF base which is being used by irresponsible drivers as a venue for drifting and racing, according to owner John Holland.

Mr Holland said dangerous drivers are a “known problem” in the town and he wants to put a stop to the criminals trespassing on his private land “before someone gets seriously hurt”.

The cars – usually “small but powerful vehicles” – make use of Morfa Camp’s 1.5 miles of private roads and tear around at speeds of approximately 80mph, 16 times that of the suggested 5mph limit.

“I’ve approached them twice before now, but the problem persists,” John told the Cambrian News.

“They show a complete disregard for the safety of the public and make a fantastic noise while they are at it too.

“There’s elderly people, children and animals throughout the area – the speed these hooligans go they wouldn’t be able to stop in just a few yards, they are a real threat to people living around here.

“They could even kill themselves, flying and skidding around, what if one of the cars were to flip over and catch on fire? I don’t want anything like that happening on my site.
