AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY of a former Aberystwyth university lecturer and historian described as ‘one of the most influential Welshmen of our era’ has been adapted into English.

A Life in History tells the story of John Davies who passed away in February.

Described as “one of the most influential Welshmen of our era” by lecturer and expert on Welsh politics, Richard Wyn Jones, Mr Davies was a lecturer at Aberystwyth University as well as warden to hundreds of students at Pantycelyn halls.

His history works include A History of Wales, The Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia and Wales: 100 Places to See Before You Die.

Richard Wyn Jones said: “It is doubtful that anyone has done more to ensure that we are conscious of our history as a people.

“Famous throughout the land for his eloquence and his apparently inexhaustible store of historical knowledge, he was one of the great characters of our national life.”
