Christmas lights

THE CHRISTMAS Lights switching-on ceremony will take place on Saturday, 28 November. Great Oak Street will be closed to traffic at 4pm for local charities to set up their stalls with mulled wine, mince pies, raffles, cake stalls as well as a fun fair for the children and a hog roast by Twink the Butcher. Father Christmas and Danielle, the carnival queen, will leave Great Oak Street at 5pm to visit Maesywennol, Bodlondeb and Llanidloes Hospital, returning at 6pm to switch on the lights accompanied by the mayor, Cllr Phyl Davies.Santa and Danielle will then retire to Santa’s Grotto outside Siop yr Oen to greet the children and give them a small treat.Whilst Father Christmas is absent on his visits, entertainment will be provided by the Wesley Singers and Mojo Disco.Shopkeepers are reminded that there is a window-dressing competition with a Christmas theme.Judging will take place in the week beginning Monday, 7 December.

Music practice

MUSIC practice sessions are starting again on Friday, 6 November. They will then take place on 13, 20 and 27 November, at 10am in Llanidloes Church Hall. If you play an instrument or love singing, come along. Taize music is short reflective chants from a monastic community in France. Ideal for instruments, and those who like to sing in harmony.

Student awards

THERE will be a student awards ceremony at Llanidloes High School on the evening of 12 November at 6.30pm. The awards ceremony has been moved from its usual daytime slot to make it more conven-ient for parents, governors and local people to attend. All welcome.

Table top sale

THERE will be a table top sale in the com-munity centre on Saturday, 21 November, from 10am to noon. There will be 50p entrance fee, a raffle, tea, coffee and cakes.
