LLANIDLOES High School held a very successful and well-attended awards ceremony. Staff, governors, parents, guests and pupils had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Lots of awards were handed out on the night, including the Victor Ludorum to Joseph Crutchley and Victrix Ludorum to Savannah Evans.Acting headteacher Catrin Taylor said the evening was one of the highlights of the school year.“I am so proud of the continuing high standards here at Llanidloes High School,” she said. “It is wonderful to see so many individual success stories. Each of the winners is a role model for the rest of the school.” Mrs Taylor also thanked guest speaker, Harriet Morris, a former pupil, who inspired the listeners with her account of the work she now does as an engineering apprentice with Powys County Council.

Bra bank

THE INNER Wheel is asking for support from ladies in the form of bras to fight breast cancer. They are asking for your old wearable bras in a bra am-nesty to raise money and also provide bras where there is a short supply. The bra bank is in the pharmacy. From there unwanted bras will go to Africa as well as Against Breast Cancer receiving a donation based on the weight collected.Christmas coffee morning and gift dayTHERE will be a Christmas coffee morning and gift day at Longbridge Street Methodist Church on Saturday, 12 December, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.Admission is £1 and there will be mince pies, coffee, hot chocolate, raffles and stalls.

THE ANNUAL Plygain service arranged by the Llanidloes Welsh Society will be on Friday, 18 December, at Trinity Chapel at 7.30pm.

THE NEXT meeting is on 10 December at 12.30pm in the vicarage for a bring and share Christmas lunch.Book signingTHERE will be a book signing at the Great Oak Bookshop on Saturday, 12 December, when John Hughes will sign copies of The Lost Welsh Kingdom from 11am to 1pm.An Old Winter’s TaleON TUESDAY, 15 December, there is the chance to see a Christmas concert with a dif-ference. This performance features a folk-based mu-sical narrative of the nativity through the eyes of a mid-19th century border villager. The evening starts at 7pm at Longbridge Street Methodist Church, performed by The Wesley Singers and folk band.Art saleA NUMBER of people took home raffle prizes at the recent art sale that took place in Chatwood, Longbridge Street.Joint first prize winners were Barry Holmes and Stephen Meyer. Second prize went to Mark Fitch and third to Gordon Evans.The raffle has raised £120 for the Noah’s Ark Appeal.Organisers gave a big thank you to everyone who braved the bad weather to support.

St Idloes Church

SUNDAY, 20 December: there is a service of family Christingle and communion for all the family at 11am. At 6pm there are carols and readings by candlelight.
