I must take issue with an article dated 1 July and the statement “Nothing for children to do in Blaenau”.
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some activities currently available in Blaenau Ffestiniog for young people.
Clwb Clinc, with their Gwallgofiaid project offer art, craft, music, film sessions, film making, DJ ing, has indoor skating amongst other activities in Cell B.There is also a thriving downhill biking club for children run by Antur Stiniog. Of course, there is also football coaching, rugby coaching and morris dancing.
The charity Grandma’s Attic is arranging summer activities for children and, in addition, the Dref Werdd are running a Clwb Nos twice a week in a local café for young people to hang out together. And of course, Blaenau has probably the best gymnastic club and instruction in North Wales for children four and over. There are probably other activities I have missed out but this is just an example of what is currently happening.
To say “they have nothing”is simply not true and totally disregards the time and effort that individuals and organisations are providing for young people in Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Whilst I appreciate work needs to be done on some of the public parks, the town council are doing what they can to rectify it, as explained by the town council’s spokesperson in the article.
This article doesn’t give credit to people who give up their time to provide a wide range of activities for children and young people in town.
