Bowls
STILL with a 100 per cent record in this season’s Welsh Bowling Association County Championship following their 19-shot (121-102) victory over Vale of Glamorgan on Llynlloedd green, Montgomeryshire CBA will take on West Glamorgan CBA at Brynhyfryd BC on 24 July.
With one third of the county’s 24-man team from Machynlleth, Andrew Fleming, Thomas Jenkins, Don Lewis, Deacon Price, Garry Price, David Rowlands, Mark Rowlands and Jonathan Taylor will be keen to keep Montgomeryshire’s bright championship hopes alive.
Machynlleth will also have a strong presence in the county’s seniors’ side as John Astley, Barry Fleming, Alwyn Jones, Kevin Jones (reserve), Ivor Price, Brendan Rogers and David Rowlands will join their colleagues to travel to Ynys BC, Port Talbot to play West Glamorgan CBA seniors on 26 July.
In Division One of the Montgomeryshire County League on 21 July, Machynlleth received a jolt to their title aspirations as they lost at title rivals Welshpool, picking up just one point to Welshpool’s six.
On the same day, and following an exciting match on Llynlloedd green, Maglona’s delighted bowlers secured their first win of the season in Division Two. They obtained a welcome 5.5 points against Maesydre (1.5 points).
Mach Maethlon
EDIBLE Mach Maethlon is making preparations to host an official opening to celebrate its superb show allotment on the Plas grounds on Sunday, 31 July.
he day will include tea and scones, discussions and games. More details to follow.
New advisers
ADVICE Mid Wales’ latest 10-week course at Y Plas came to an end on Thursday, 21 July.
During the weekly sessions the trainees worked through the many and varied enquiry areas that volunteer advisers deal with on a regular basis.
The successful participants now move on to the Advice Mid Wales offices at the Care Centre, Machynlleth where they will put their newly acquired skills to good use.
Anyone who is interested can look out for details for the next training course, or call in at the Advice Mid Wales office. The more people who are interested, the quicker the next course can be put on.
Golf
GOOD weather meant that the ladies could tackle the Renee Davies and H M Jones Trophies.
Rhian Wynn had a great round and didn’t miss a putt (some of us couldn’t not miss).
She ended up overall winner with 95 gross and 75 nett but, as she is only allowed one of the trophies, she takes the gross while Sue Kelly took the nett with a score of 80.
