MACHYNLLETH’S Cubs group has celebrated its fifth anniversary with a special event at Y Plas.

The event, which saw a range of stalls, a bouncy castle and a special science activity table, celebrated the continuing success of the group, which started in April 2013 with around 25 Cubs and 10 Beavers before growing to more than 50 current members.

Akela Julieann Evans, who was also presented with a five-year service award, said the celebration had raised more than £350 which will be used to help pay for summer trips and camps for the Cubs and Beavers.

She said: “We would like to thank everyone who came and supported us, the parents for coming to help, Machynlleth Co-op for their donation, and Cllr Michael Williams for his support.

“My brilliant team of 13 leaders and seven young leaders give up their free time to help make Machynlleth Scouting Group the success it is today, with over 50 local youth members age ranging from six to 16.

“We are always on the lookout for potential leaders who can help on occasional or a regular basis.

“We are also looking for committee board members.”
