I would like to respond to your article in last week’s issue of the Cambrian News under the heading ‘Call for dog licences to deal with irresponsible dog owners’.
It was a report of county councillor Mark Strong saying that: “I’m coming to the conclusion that the only way to deal with the minority of irresponsible dog owners is to campaign for the dog licence to be brought back and for large fines for those dog owners who are irresponsible.”
It is a time when Ceredigion County Council, along with all countries in the world, are desperately trying to deal with the killer coronavirus outbreak.
So surely - though it is not correct to allow a playful dog on a restricted beach as in this case his calling for all law-abiding dog owners to once again be charged for a dog licence - with all the involved costly administration - is far more irresponsible towards all council and income tax payers.
Cllr Strong should be representing the larger majority of responsible dog owners not the handful of irresponsible ones with his return of dog licences policy in a time of possible unknown financial downfall for all.
