When the Wales Coast Path officially opened in 2012 Maya Burchell-Haslett, of Llandysul, pledged that one day she would walk its entire 870-mile length - and this summer that is exactly what she did!

Having started her marathon hike from Chepstow she finally reached the finish at Chester last week.

“It’s been an amazing challenge,” she said, “but I’ve seen some really beautiful places, although my favourite part is still southern Ceredigion, but I may be biased!”

Along the way she has backpacked, staying on campsites and in hostels, and also stayed with family and friends in various parts of Wales.

A keen environmentalist, Maya’s walk has also been raising funds for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

Following a brief rest, Maya decided to continue her walk down Offa’s Dyke back to her starting point in Chepstow, having walked the whole perimeter of Wales.
