Madam,
I fear that Chris Samuel’s memory of the 1975 referendum result is spectacularly wrong (No whining in 1975 when vote went the other way). He says that it was as close as last year’s referendum, but there was little complaint from the losing ‘leave’ side (for a decade or so anyway).
In truth, 67 per cent voted to remain in the EEC. ‘Leave’ voters were outnumbered two to one.
Millions of Remain voters are justified in making their voices heard now, both because of the much closer result and because, unlike 1975, there is a further decision to be taken about what kind of Brexit.
Yours etc,
Alec Dauncey, Pier Street, Aberystwyth.
