AN ABERYSTWYTH mother is continuing her fight to end illegal parking outside her child’s school despite being the target of threats and “intimidation” from other parents.
Kelly Cable said that, because of a lack of action by Ceredigion County Council and Plascrug School, she has had to resort to shaming parents who park illegally by posting photos of them on her Facebook group, ‘Shame Illegal Parking in Aberystwyth’.
In March 2013, it was reported in the Cambrian News that the council had stopped civil enforcement officers — formerly known as traffic wardens — from patrolling in the area of the school “short-term” because of “unnecessary levels of abuse” directed at them by some parents.
Since this decision was made, Mrs Cable said the situation has become dangerous for children being dropped off or picked up from school.
She said: “Three weeks ago, a car reversed and almost knocked a child over, which sparked complaints to the school about parking on double yellow lines around the island and even on top of the island.
“At the last school year, a child did get hit but it wasn’t serious.
“Literally next to the school there is a footbridge which leads from from a council car park with ample parking spaces.”
