MARED Gordon has been appointed manager of Grwp Cynefin’s Maes y Môr sheltered housing scheme in Tremadog.

Mared, who previously worked for the housing group’s Gorwel service, joins Leigh Maclean, Maes y Môr’s new caretaker.

When restrictions allow, Mared hopes to hold social events such as coffee mornings, games and film evenings for the over 55s who live on site, in order to enhance the welcoming environment and reinforce the sense of community.

“The previous manager was here for 20 years, so I have some big shoes to fill,” she said.

“Everyone has been so friendly, we have a good spread of tenants: we accept residents from age 55 upwards, and we have some in their 80s that are particularly active.

“As appropriate, I’m looking forward to bringing back more and more activities, which is a significant part of why people choose to live here. We already have plenty of wonderful ideas as a team. However, the key part of the role for me is ensuring residents are supported properly to live at their own pace, which there is a real emphasis on at Maes y Môr.”

New caretaker Leigh joins after the retirement of another long-standing employee and knows her new colleague well.

“I’ve known Mared since she was knee high, so it’s a real pleasure to be working with her now, which is helping to add to that friendly culture,” she said. “The site itself is in a wonderful location; I’m able to cycle in most days from home as it’s lovely and quiet, but close enough to amenities so the tenants can keep busy.”
