Madam,

I am glad to read that O Jean Thomas would seek to protect speakers of languages from hate crime and I would note that North Wales Police already treat both Welsh and English languages as protected characteristics.

I would courteously remind her, however, that, unlike Welsh speakers, English speakers do not experience mockery at the hands of British newspaper columnists.
