Madam,

I was sad to see the article about parking charges being considered for the seafront, but surprised there wasn’t more coverage of the huge cuts George Osborne has planned for British councils.Ceredigion County Council already has to make £10m of cuts and this is just the beginning of a never-ending process.

Parking charges are the tip of the iceberg.

The services being offered in five years are going to be massively reduced - old people’s homes and leisure centres are likely to be sold off, and library functions look doomed too. What makes it sadder is that the people of Ceredigion have voted for austerity at the last two elections. This is the sort of world we want.As long as you don’t need to use the education services, or health, or leisure, or old people’s care over the next few years, you’ll be fine. We’re going to have many years of hearing about people unhappy at cuts.Let’s not forget who approved them, and focus a little on the causes rather than effects.

Yours etc
