A polytunnel for lambing is set to be built on a smallholding near Llanwenog after planning permission was granted.

An application for a 22×9 metre polytunnel came before Ceredigion County Council’s development control committee on Wednesday, December 8.

It will be built on a small holding at Tegfan, alongside the A475 to the west of Dre-fach and to the north of Llanwenog and will be used as a lambing shed and occasional storage of farming equipment.

Cyngor Cymuned Llanwenog Community Council had objected to the plan due to concerns about pollution run-off and the impact onto a spring water source and the potential to use the polytunnel to house large numbers of chickens.

The committee heard that there were no plans to keep chickens in the polytunnel, just sheep during lambing or if shelter was required due to adverse weather or health treatment.

It was referred to for committee consideration because local member Cllr Euros Davies declared an interest in the application and members followed the officer recommendation to approve.
