AS we celebrate Christmas with family and friends, we should spare a thought for those who have to carry on working over the festive season to provide essential services.
Police, the Fire Brigade and ambulance crews will be on duty over the holiday period, dealing with all kinds of emergencies.
Also at work are doctors, nurses and support staff at hospitals and homes for the elderly, along with hard-working volunteers in many organisations and charities.
Those manning helplines are expecting a busy time over the festive period as people struggle in these difficult financial times. And it is a hectic time for churches and chapels, as people celebrate the birth of Christ.
Those who are employed in shops, restaurants, cafés and hotels will also be working to make our festivities more enjoyable.
And don’t forget those maintaining our power and water supplies and other essential services.
Finally, spare a thought for those who are on their own over the festive season. It can be a lonely time, especially if you are elderly or unwell, and a visit from a neighbour would surely be welcomed.
Merry Christmas, Nadolig Llawen, to you all from everyone at the Cambrian News.
