MARK Williams MP has hit out at the Government’s decision to go ahead with further cuts to the Welsh language broadcaster S4C.
It was announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement that further cuts would be made to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
This means that Government funding for S4C will be cut from £6.7m a year to £5m by 2019/20.
Mr Williams said: “I am appalled by these cuts to S4C. This is a hugely damaging and short-term decision which will have deep implications for Welsh-language broadcasting and the creative industry in Wales.
“This remains at odds with the Government’s commitment to S4C. The Government needs to acknowledge the important role that S4C plays in Wales, and I urge them to rethink these cuts.”
