A FORMER Lampeter pupil has been named as Plaid Cymru’s candidate for June’s General Election.

Ben Lake was announced as the candidate for the party following a party meeting in Llwyncelyn Memorial Hall. He joins current Ceredigion MP, Liberal Democrat Mark Williams, as confirmed candidates.

Mr Lake was born and brought up in Lampeter and studied history at Oxford University after leaving Lampeter Comprehensive School.

He worked as a press officer for Ceredigion AM Elin Jones in the Aberystwyth office before working in the National Assembly.

Mr Lake said: “It’s an honour to be chosen by Plaid Cymru members as the Ceredigion candidate for the General Election.

“Ceredigion is my home and I want this county to be well-represented in Westminster.”

Ms Jones said: “I’ve known Ben for many years and I am so pleased that he is Plaid Cymru’s candidate in this election. He is an intelligent, engaging young man and is Ceredigion through and through.”

Other candidates for the election have not yet been named.
