AT the November meeting President, Margaret Humphreys welcomed Kevin Tiernan from Community Fire Service as the guest speaker. Kevin gave a talk on ‘Safe Home’, which the club members enjoyed enormously with plenty of questions and comments.The business meeting followed where Katharine Dobson read the prayer and Barbara Heys gave the International Toast to the Townsville club in Queensland, Australia. President, Margaret thanked everyone who helped and gave donations at the Tombola evening recently where enough money was made to buy the boxes of biscuits which are given to the house-bound local elderly residents. Sheila Roberts brought sample boxes of biscuits for the members to pick the most suitable. The boxes will be gift wrapped at the President’s sherry morning held this year at Sheila’s home.President, Margaret reported on the district meeting held at Wrexham, Secretary, Margaret reported on the District Rally held in Liverpool and International officer, Wendy Haverfield gave the report on the West Zone meeting held in Llanfairfechan. The club unanimously agreed to have a tree at St John’s Christmas Tree Festival held between 17 and 20 December.The next meeting held at Jennie’s will be the Christmas lunch on Monday, 14 December.

AR 9 Tachwedd daeth yr aelodau ynghyd i wrando ar Bob Morris yn dweud hanes Thomas Edward Lawrence 1888-1935 sef Lawrence of Arabia. Yn ei chyflwyniad gwnaeth Susan Owen y llywydd grynhoi cefndir Mr Morris a phwysleisio mor rhagorol oedd ei ddawn darlithio.Yr oedd Lawrence wedi ei eni yn Nhremadog a’i dad yn Wyddelig a’i fam o dras Cymreig. Yr oedd yn gymeriad diddorol a chymleth a rhamant yn perthyn iddo.Ar ôl crwydro gryn dipyn, sefydlodd y teulu yn Rhydychen ac aeth Lawrence i Goleg Yr Iesu, a chafodd radd dosbarth cyntaf mewn Hanes ac Archeoleg. Aeth i Syria a dysgu Arabeg a phan ddaeth y Rhyfel Mawr ymladdodd gyda’r Arabiaid yn erbyn y Twrciaid. Yn nes ymlaen ysgrifenodd lyfr am ei brofiadau sef Seven pillars of wisdom.Cafodd lawer iawn o gyhoeddusrwydd a diwedd trist yn ieuanc ar gefn ei foto beic.Ar 19 Mai, rhoddwyd plac ar gadair yn yr ardd yng ngorffwysfa (Woodlands) i gofio amdano.Diolchwyd i Bob Morris am ei sgwrs hynod o ddiddorol, ffeithiol a hudol gan y Parch Christopher Prew. Cynhelir y cyfarfod nesaf ar 23 Tachwedd pryd y cawn glywed Profiadau Awdures gan Angharad Thomas.
Older People’s Council conference
THE annual Gwynedd Older People’s Council conference will be held on Friday, 4 December at Y Ganolfan.The day will include an introduction to the new Social Services and Wellbeing Act that will come to force in April 2016 from the head of Gwynedd Council’s Adult, Health and Wellbe-ing Service, information on how partners are preparing for the new act and a presentation on some of the innovative projects being developed and implemented in Gwynedd in collaboration with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.There will be a number of agencies with information stalls to be seen on the day offering advice to people regarding their rights and the services available to them.Cllr Selwyn Griffiths, Gwynedd Council’s Older People’s Champion, said: “The day is open to anyone over the age of 50 and living in Gwynedd. I would call on anyone who wants to find out more about the services available to them and the work conducted to improve provisions, to join us at Porthmadog.”
