Most parking fees across Ceredigion will go up by between five and nine per cent with the council imposing “inflation linked” increases under current proposals.

As part of the council’s budget setting process for the 2020/21 financial year, the authority is looking at its fees and charges as part of its standard annual review.

Under proposals put forward to the council’s overview and scrutiny coordinating committee, that will see the vast majority of parking fees increased by somewhere between five and eight per cent, with a small number of increases of around 10p at Llandysul, New Quay and Tregaron equating to an increase of between 10 and 12 per cent because of the current size of fees.

Just one fee will not increase at all, with the council recommending no increase in the three-month charge for cars and motorbikes in Aberaeron’s Lower Regent Street and North Beach car parks, although both six and nine-month charges will increase.

All other car parks and all categories of tickets will see increases ranging from five per cent to eight per cent, which in most cases equates to a 10p price increase, with 20p increases imposed mostly for three-hour or daily tickets.

A decision on the increase in parking fees, and other fees the council charges, will go before scrutiny committees for discussion before they are decided by the full council during a meeting to set the authority’s budget.
