A HERITAGE railway is chuffed to have won a major tourism award.

There was great excitement for the Talyllyn Railway team at the recent Go North Wales Tourism Awards presentation dinner when the railway won the Best Marketing award.

To accept the award on behalf of the railway were Stuart Williams, the railway’s general manager; Lorraine Simkiss, commercial manager; Dan King, marketing officer; and volunteer Lel Johnson.

The award evening was held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno with some 400 industry representatives present.

Commenting on the award the chairman of Talyllyn Railway Company, David Ventry, said: “In recent years we have been seeking to improve the marketing of the railway and the appointment of a full-time marketing officer, Dan King, was a key step in that process.

“Dan along with the other members of the team have initiated a fresh approach to our marketing and the results in this year’s increased passenger numbers are there for all to see.

“I would also like to mention the contribution of Lel Johnson whose design skills and experience have contributed greatly to improving our publicity materials and website, as well as the many others who have been involved.

“This award is a richly deserved accolade for the fine work that has been done by the team.”
