Madam,

Though a left-wing Tony Benn political ideology supporter, I must write of my disappointment at the non re-election to parliament of Ceredigion’s Mark Williams whom I admit to having voted for purely on his personal political record.

The result of any election brings winners and losers. The loss of the Ceredigion seat from Liberal to Plaid by a mere 104 votes does not make Mark a loser as residents will always be aware and remember the workload and knowledge that he has given to residents of whatever party in Ceredigion in his numerous surgeries, too many to recall.

The diversity of problems brought to him, ranging from what could be described as fairly easy to deal with, to major difficulties, were all followed up to a satisfactory conclusion wherever possible. All this in addition to his ability to convince fellow MPs in Westminster of the specific diverse needs of our rural Ceredigion area.

If our newly elected Plaid Cymru MP can even fill half of Mark’s shoes then he will be doing well in this politically demanding constituency which presents so many diverse issues to be dealt with, many of a non-political nature but nevertheless of paramount importance to the present and future well-being of residents, I wish him well with his task.

I write to thank you Mark Williams and your lovely family for what you have given us over so many years, always in such a gentlemanly and friendly manner.

Yours etc,

Pat Bates, Aberystwyth.
