A RESTAURANT in Porthmadog has donated £1,500 to the Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team.

Staff at Y Banc handed over a cheque to members of the team, with the restaurant saying it was proud to be able to help the local community.

Ed Hawkins is fundraising officer at Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team.

He said: “The team is really grateful for this amazingly generous donation from Y Banc and their customers.

“Having the support of local businesses means so much to us and we want to thank Y Banc for raising awareness of the team and the work that we do for locals and visitors alike.

“All members of Aberglaslyn MRT are volunteers and fundraising such as this is essential to keep us running.”

A spokesperson for Y Banc restaurant said: “We passionately believe that it’s the social responsibility of all businesses to give something back to their local community.

“All businesses should be really serious about doing this, not just token gifts, but something that actually makes a difference.

“We owe this not only to our customers, who support us, but also the wider community.”

They added: “We have previously donated to many charities, including; Porthmadog Scouts, Cylch Meithrin Garndolbenmaen, Cancer Research and last year to the Aberglaslyn mountain rescue team.

“We chose the Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team this time because they are a fantastic example of a local group who volunteer their time to be on call 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. Their volunteering really saves lives.”
