As a result of the A493 closure for several hours following an accident on 6 July, I had to turn back to Aberdyfi, only a mile before my home, and divert to the Happy Valley route.
Big mistake: I soon found that traffic had been diverted in both directions into Happy Valley. This eventually resulted in a dangerous total standstill in the narrow high-hedged road (without a mobile signal).
I, and others behind me, had to reverse for some distance to allow the huge lorry directly in front of us to seek somewhere to do a three-point turn (no chance). We all ended up blocked in a farmyard.
Some time later I got back to the Tywyn road and was advised to take the road via Talyllyn Lake, Corris and Machynlleth. It was three hours before I got home.
My concern is how quickly the dangerous situation in Happy Valley developed. This road is not a safe alternative where large vehicles are involved.
