ROADS have been closed and bridges submerged in Ceredigion today (Saturday), as heavy rain sweeps through the region.

Bridges at Llechryd and Newcastle Emlyn are submerged and unpassable.

There are six flood warnings in place for Ceredigion: the River Aeron, Aberaeron; the River Teifi at Llandysul Bridge, Llandysul; the River Teifi at Llechryd; the River Teifi at Cenarth; the River Teifi at Newcastle Emlyn and the River Teifi at Llanybydder.

Police said within the last hour that the road leading to and from the bridge in Newcastle Emlyn is currently closed, and drivers are asked to find an alternative route.

Ceredigion council has advised this afternoon that the A484 at Cenarth and A475 at Adpar are now also closed due to "flooding and treacherous driving conditions".

Natural Resources Wales has six flood warnings in place, as well as five flood alerts, where flooding is possible at Lower Teifi, Upper Teifi, Mid Ceredigion, River Cothi and Rivers Rheidol, Ystwyth and Clarach.
