MEMBERS of the 2nd New Quay and Llanarth Air Scout Group celebrated their 20th anniversary on Saturday.

Launched on 14 February 1997 as 2nd New Quay Air Scout Group they initially met in the church hall in New Quay, with the group leader at the time being the late Alan Tapping.

The group soon moved to Llanarth, where it was renamed the 2nd New Quay and Llanarth Air Scout Group.

Over the past 20 years the group has been offering outdoor and adventurous activities to six to 18-year-olds from the local area.

Youngsters from Llanarth, New Quay, Mydroilyn, Pentregat, Ciliau Aeron, Rhydlewis, Dihewyd currently attend the group.

“Scouting has given me opportunities that I wouldn’t otherwise have had and has enabled me to grow, to develop confidence and to meet people from across the world,” said group Scout leader Claire Jones.

“I enjoy seeing the young people learning new skills, trying new things and having fun outdoors.”

To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the group held an afternoon of activities, open to all past members of the group, at Gellie campsite, near Plwmp.

These included an It’s a Knockout-style competition, barbecue and campfire.

The group is always looking to welcome new adults and young people.
