Madam,

The closure, to safeguard the line over high tide, of the entire 38 miles of the famous Cambrian Coast Railway for the mornings of 12 and 13 October underlines the urgency of seeking alternatives to the government strategy of “managed retreat”, which will transform this lovely lagoon into just another Welsh estuary.

The recent IPPC report on global warming by worldwide scientists forecasts a rise in sea level of 18 inches. And this will endanger the planned development of the Spaceport Llanbedr, costing millions of pounds. It will also mean the planned access road to the spaceport will run lower than planned, enabling the villagers and tourists to see across the saltings to the sea.

Our group’s alternative involving a rising barrier at the sea entrance to the lagoon has been supported by our Bishop Andy and many others. We do hope your readers will support this and write to us.

Yours etc,

Graham Tottle, Secretary, Maes Arthro, Llanbedr.
