Madam,

Any bus congestion in Eldon Square, Dolgellau occurs when buses arrive early before others depart. An easy solution would be for the companies to time the arrival and departure of buses more efficiently.

Most of the time there is not a problem. Eldon Square is a bus stop where a bus may begin or terminate a service. Any bus terminating, but not in service, has no need to park in the square. The local bus company depot which already provides a rest area for drivers, should provide this layover facility. Any congestion is a logistical problem caused by the layover of vehicles not in use.

As the petition from bus users and local businesses has confirmed, removing the bus stop from the centre, to the Marian car park, will inconvenience elderly and disabled users. It will also increase traffic congestion causing delays to everyone entering and exiting the car park.

Many large delivery vehicles need access to the industrial estate. Only one large vehicle can enter or exit from the bridge at one time. Transferring an already inefficient system of arrival and departure will only increase congestion and pollution problems. If the Eldon Square bus stop is to remain, travellers will continue to use it.

It seems very poor timing for the council to withdraw funding support for rural bus services and then build a new transport terminus when there is already a bus depot in the town.

It seems the council has not consulted local residents who live next to the Marian by leaflet or by letter, nor published a detailed impact assessment for public consultation, regarding fire, health and safety, or future problems with access to the air ambulance helicopter bay on the Marian field.

Yours etc,

Paul Frazer, Green Lane, Dolgellau.
