CEREDIGION residents should be prepared 70-80mph winds today, Tuesday, as the Met Office issues a yellow warning of wind in anticipation of Storm Barney.
Following the high winds and torrential rain associated with Storm Abigail towards the end of last week and over the weekend, forecasters are predicting winds in excess of 70mph for the county by this evening.
Building from around midday, the high winds look likely to peak at around 7pm before dropping off overnight.
The Met Office said: “There is now increased confidence that the worst of the winds will reach west Wales late in the afternoon, sweeping rapidly eastwards across the Midlands during the evening.
“Widespread gusts of 50-60mph are likely, increasing to 60-70mph across parts of Wales and the Midlands, and possibly reaching 70-80mph in the most exposed spots such as on some coasts of West Wales.
“Be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and that gusts of this strength could bring down trees and lead to some damage to weakened structures.”
