A PWLLHELI teenager has launched a CD in memory of her beloved grandmother in a bid to raise funds for the hospital ward that cared for her.
Beca Haf Jones recently released her CD, titled Er Cof am Nain, following the death of her grandmother, Brenda Williams, who passed away in October at the age of 59 from lung cancer.
The 16-year-old said she wanted to do something in her grandmother’s memory and at the same time raise money for Alaw Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd.
She said: “My nan’s death left me and my family devastated, we miss her very much.
“I wanted to do something in my nan’s memory and raise money for Alaw Ward to thank them for the care they gave her, they were fantastic.”
The Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor Pwllheli student, who is studying Welsh, drama and psychology, recorded the CD with Edwin Humphries at Stiwdio Pant yr Hwch.
This is not the first time Beca has been involved in making music as she revealed she has enjoyed singing since a very early age.
She said: “I have been singing my entire life; I love to sing and enjoy my singing lessons each weekend.
“Making this CD came naturally to me because I’ve been singing so long and I really wanted to do something like this for my nan.
“My nan was always over the moon when she heard me sing and one of her final wishes was for me to sing at her funeral.
“I’m really grateful to Edwin for helping me with my CD, it means a lot to me and my family.
“All five tracks apart from one are sung by me, but one includes the children from the family.
“My favourite song on the CD is Yr Angor as it really means something to me and relates to my nan.
“I’m grateful to everyone who has supported the CD and I hope I can sell as many as possible so we can raise a good amount for Alaw Ward as they really deserve it.”
The CD is on sale for £5 from Beca’s family or by contacting Vikki on 07807 722254.
Tracks included on Er Cof am Nain are Anfonaf Angel, Haleliwia, Yr Angor, Bytholwyrdd and Nadolig Llawen.
