Forty-eight years ago the Cambrian Coast Line Action Group ran their special train (on 18 November) from Pwllheli to London in order for the Welsh people to march to Downing Street and tell the government you will not close our railway.

The march received national publicity and without doubt kept the line open and, more importantly, kept quite a number of Welsh people in employment.

Sadly, not one of the line operators since then has given credit to the Action Group and what they did.

In thanking those who campaigned to save the railway from closure, one must also remember the men over 150 years ago who built the line in the first place and in so doing creating one of the finest railways in the world.
