AN INSPIRATIONAL couple who have already raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for cancer research are planning a gruelling new challenge to raise even more.

On Saturday, 3 June, The Alarm frontman Mike Peters and his wife Jules, who have both been fighting cancer, will be walking the stunning 21 miles of the coastal path between Aberdaron and Abersoch, alongside scores of other walkers in order to raise money and awareness.

The Beach to Beach walk, which sets off from Ty Newydd, Aberdaron at 10am, has been organised as part of the By Your Side cancer care campaign, set up by the Peterses with Awyr Las in November 2014.

Since its launch, the campaign has raised over £270,000 to support new equipment and better facilities, support networks for patients and additional training for NHS staff, all making a tangible impact on people living with cancer in north Wales.

Mr Peters, who is a cancer survivor himself and in remission, said: “When I launched the By Your Side cancer care campaign with our North Wales NHS Charity, Awyr Las, two years ago I was a man on a mission. I wanted to help others like me get the very best quality treatment and care right here in north Wales. I hoped to encourage people to keep active, and I aimed to celebrate all that is great about our NHS.

“What better way to raise money than to get out there and enjoy the absolutely stunning scenery we have in this part of the world? We’re going to have a fantastic day on Llyn Peninsula and we hope people will want to join us. The more the merrier. The more people sign up, the more money we’ll raise. Every single penny will support people with cancer and their families, right here in north Wales.”
