On Tuesday, I went to take some old rubbish to the recycling depot at the Glan yr Afon Industrial Estate, Llanbadarn Fawr,Aberystwyth, but in spite of there being no cars in front of me, I was turned away.

This was due to my number plate being an even number, which seemingly is the council’s way of keeping down numbers.

I was told I had to come back the next day.

It seems the service now runs at the council’s convenience, rather than that of the long-suffering rate payer!

Thursday, the next date us even number platers were able to go to the tip was not convenient, as I was working. As a good citizen, I will of course return to dispose of my recyclables, whenever work allows, sometime over the next fortnight. Many won’t. They will simply fly-tip their junk down our beautiful country lanes (I have noticed an increase in fly tipping - can’t think why?)

Lastly, one of the reasons for recycling everything is to impact the planet less. By such a system we are forced to drive about and pollute more.

Ceredigion! Time for a rethink!
